Jean Dixon Sanders says
One has hatched!!!!!
Ann Murray says
Cool!!! I saw the chick (Wynken?) too, and the mom sat down on him/her. I wonder how she keeps from suffocating the chick.
Trena says
How about in tune with the Memorial Holiday “birth” names be Liberty, Freedom and Peace
Grip411 says
I just saw Flynn for the 1st time!
Grip411 says
Looks like Mata is on the way too!
Maria says
I wonder that too, but she still needs to keep the remaining eggs warm, so there must be a system. How timely that they’re starting to emerge for Memorial Day weekend and the Tea Party!
MARY says
Marching bands ! ! all to celebrate the arrival of Osprey Jr. What will the town do for the next arrivals?
Joseph says
Mabel has emerged. Two eggs remaining. Saturday May 29th.
Ann Murray says
She’s feeding the chick now!
Jean Dixon Sanders says
The male came back with 2 fish, and left one for Mama O. She has been tearing little bits off, and mashing them in her mouth before sharing with #1. I put a couple of fuzzy screen shots on Facebook.
Joseph says
7pm Sunday, the second one just hatched! Margo has arrived. Waiting for Bill.
Ann Murray says
A few minutes ago, Wynken and Blynken were alone in the nest with no Mother O. She soon returned. Waiting for Nod….
John says
If we can’t agree on the chicks’ names, how are they ever going to learn them?
Grip411 says
who won the binocs?
we’re all wondering!
Sherry McKee says
Come ON mom, move over, we all want to see your baby!
Joseph says
Wynken, Blinken and Nod is pretty unoriginal, don’t you think? Just like Curly, Larry and Mo.
Maria says
I like Wynken Blynken and Nod. They sail on a sea of dew and fish for herring fish, it’s perfect!
Edmund Woo says
Where’s the third egg?
MARY says
We have just seen a feast of fish, delivered to nest and eaten there. Two hungry chicks. Third egg still asleep.
Ann Murray says
I’m thrilled that the names I suggested — Wynken, Blynken, and Nod — were chosen for the 3 chicks! These names came to mind as our sons went to an elementary school named for the poet, Eugene Field, and I knew that the poem was a lullaby about 3 fishermen so it seemed to fit for hatching osprey chicks. (I did do some research to make sure that osprey actually do eat herring as specified in the poem.) I look forward to using the binoculars to watch waterfowl all year long from our porch on the Chester.
Hopefully those who submitted excellent entries will get another chance next year if the Chestertown Spy has another “name the chick” contest. As a matter of fact, I suggest that the binoculars circulate, like a trophy, from year to year to the new winner.
Still waiting for Nod…
MARY says
Thursday morning. One parent eating, then feeding.
Change of sitters. One parent flew away, then back. Is that 3rd round shape egg or bird?
Robert M says
I see one parent tending to two chicks – can only tell the little ones apart from the movement – a still would probably not be clear enough.
Deb says
THIS IS AWESOME!!! Thank you so much for the “bird’s eye view”
Deb says
Thanks so much for doing this!
Margo says
Have been away for several days. Did the 3rd egg hatch ?
c.g. says
Thanx to Yerkes, Dave Wheelan, Atlantic Security and the Osprey family for making it possible to allow so many of us the privilege of visiting . So cool and wonderful. C.G.
Trams says
I laughed out loud a 6:30 am. Both adult osprey were busy building their nest higher to protect their chicks. Whacking one newborn in the head with a stick while stepping on the other. Recalled my early days as a mother.
susan says
I too thank the companies that set up and sponsor the osprey cam. What a great diversion during the day to check on the nest. Right now the adult is feeding one chick and seems to be ignoring the other one. I am intrigued that the unfed chick is just being patient and waiting its turn. A good example for us.
Ann Murray says
Poor Mama O just fell over on her back in the nest. She was wallowing on her back and had a hard time righting herself. In the meantime, Wynken and Blynken were under her but seem to be fine now that mom is right-side up.
Mimi says
OMG This is more riveting than Real Housewives of NYC!!!!!!
Mimi says
omg this is getting so exciting!!!! does anyone know how long it will be before the babies try to fly???
Mary Jane says
Is the osprey hurt? He’s been in the same position for a few days.
Dave says
Don’t know if this was the first flight for Blynken(?), but I just saw him/her take off, 9:45 AM, Monday, 8/2/10, fly around and come back to the nest. Took off again. Congrats, Blynken!! We knew you could do it!
Jackie OBrien says
what’s happened to the picture? There 45 min ago.
