Talbot County had a very special day on Saturday as over a thousand residents gathered for the dedication of the Frederick Douglass statue in front of the County Courthouse. Despite the hot weather, the two hour program ranged from the sounds of the Union Baptist Mass Choir, the insights of Yale professor David Blight on Douglass’ legacy, and the Douglass Essay winner Juliette Neil. Highlights also included actor Fred Morsell’s dramatic portrayal of Douglass, and ended with Eric Lowery, Co-Chair of the “Douglass Returns” weekend, and Governor Martin O’Malley, along with students Juliette Neil and Brandon Coleman, unveiling the brilliant sculpture by Jay Hall Carpenter.
