Contemporary Polish-American artist and professor Monika Weiss has had a unique journey from her home town of Warsaw to New York City, and now to Chestertown. While part of that journey has been physical in nature, it is with her art that we sense the cumulative effect of a life living with different senses of time and place. To fully appreciate her work (both through video and music media), the viewer needs to allocate their own time to invest in the experience, or, to use her own phrase, the audience needs to “surrender” to the work to gain the most out of it.
Dave Wheelan and Kurt Kolaja caught up with her before her art exhibit opening at the Kohl in late February.
