While a few people feel Chestertown already has enough idiots to go around, none have been so embraced by the community as native daughter Robbi Behr and her husband, Matthew Swanson, the co-founders of Idiots’Books. Collaborating on both books and babies since graduating from Williams College in 1997, Robbi and Matthew bring a unique match of art and writing in the creation of what they call “odd, commercially non-viable illustrated books” through a subscription of six limited edition publications a year. Ranging from topics such as car traffic to parenthood (The Baby is Disappointing), Idiots’Books was recently listed by New York Magazine’s “Approval Matrix,” in the highly prized “brilliant-lowbrow” category. That kind of attention has made Idiots’Books an international hit and a Chestertown favorite.

A most enjoyable peek into the inventive and irreverent minds of Robbi and Matthew. Now I want to buy some of their books.
